What's With This Climate Change?

Wassuuuppp!
Simply Science
It's a gas!
Hot Stuff!
So we've talked about this greenhouse gas blanket that makes our planet so special... livable, that is!!

Well, there are many different types of greenhouse gases in this blanket.  Here are the most common ones:

Carbon Dioxide

Methane

Nitrous Oxide

Water Vapour

These greenhouse gases are produced both naturally and by people.  Some of the natural sources of greenhouse gas are:

decaying plants
the air we breath out
natural forest fires

Now the not-so-natural greenhouse gases are the ones we need to reduce!!  These are the greenhouse gases we humans produce too much of!!  They are the ones the Cool Climate Kids' Club aims to teach people about.  Here's how they are created:

when we burn coal, oil and gas (fossil fuels) for our electrity!
  • CARBON DIOXIDE, NITROUS OXIDE

when we burn fossil fuels for heating and cooling our buildings.
  • CARBON DIOXIDE, NITROUS OXIDE

when we burn the fossil fuel, gasoline to move our planes, trains and automobiles!
  • CARBON DIOXIDE, NITROUS OXIDE

when we use lots of water, especially hot water.
  • CARBON DIOXIDE, NITROUS OXIDE, WATER VAPOUR

when garbage decays and from some types of farming.
  • METHANE

CIRCLES IN THE SNOW
As global warming melts the permafrost in the arctic, this releases more greenhouse gas.  As more of the greenhouse gases trapped in the permafrost are released, the more the temperature rises.  The more the temperature rises the quicker the permafrost melts…and so on…
